Gold Coast Succulent & Bromeliad Society Meeting
Grant Received January 2010

Grant from the Queensland Government
"Gambling Community Benefit Fund,"

Thanks to receiving a Grant from the Queensland Government "Gambling Community Benefit Fund,"

Our Society is enjoying the many benefits of a barcoding/point-of-sale system for processing plant sales at our meetings.

The items funded by the Grant include two electronic cash registers, two barcode scanners and a barcode label printer, as well as and aluminium hand trolley, and a Notetaker for the Secretary.

The Point-of-Sales system streamlines plant purchasing at our meetings and simplifies sales ticketing preparation for our Society's plant sellers.

The arduous task of preparing sales tickets for plants and pups has been eliminated.
Ticketing of plants prior to barcoding was labour intensive and time consuming for our plant sellers.
After the initial computerized set up process and database creation, barcode labels for pricing plants are now processed at the rate of approximately three labels per second!
In addition to saving ticketing time for our sellers, the new barcode labels are weatherproofed.
Plants that did not sell at a meeting can go back into the garden or shade house and the barcode labels are not susceptible to damage by sun or rain for up to six months or so.

The barcode/point of sale system is a win/win situation for our Society's sales team and our plant sellers alike.

We are grateful to the Gambling Community Benefit Fund for the funds granted, and to the enthusiastic support and generosity of time donated by all those who assisted our Society's Grants Officer, John Crawford, in obtaining this grant.
